What is Myreader?

Myreader is an AI powered tool for students, teachers & curious individuals who can upload any documents, videos, articles, reports and start interacting with it through query. The platform speeds up learning by doing 75% of the work for you and getting you to the core of any piece of writing or literature.

Why?

Curated knowledge is everywhere around us and the process of going through it is slow, unstructured and inefficient. Whether you are a student learning from textbooks, a researcher reading papers, a lawyer analyzing cases, a doctor keeping up with latest advancements, or any professional going through internal company documents, the process is the same.

Problem

While Myreader excels as a tool for accelerated learning, we aimed to transform it into a workspace that enables collective learning. Currently, collaborative learning requires juggling multiple tools—shared Google Docs, Zoom calls, and external AI models for complex queries. Our vision was to unite these functions in a single, intuitive workspace with a fresh design that encourages learning together.

Using existing user data we extracted some key problems and needs.

From the survey we found that users wanted:

Interestingly, we were already developing many of these features, but the survey helped us prioritize them—with YouTube integration and web article support emerging as the two most requested additions.

We were particularly excited about implementing the smart note saving system.

Why Re-Design?

The first iteration of Myreader was barren due to limited features, with a minimalist design that left too much negative space. The interface wasn't intuitive and failed to give students and users a complete overview when browsing the platform.

Our first major change was implementing Dark Mode—a natural choice since most of our users are students studying late at night. Research shows that Dark Mode is preferred for studying and reading. This change also aligned perfectly with our brand's new aesthetic refresh.

The Library

Our first visual adjustment to the library section focused on enhancing visual navigation and removing the dropdown scroll. Research consistently shows that users navigate interfaces more effectively through visual elements, so we prioritized displaying book covers and making query selection more intuitive.

After adding YouTube and audiobook support, we created a completely redesigned library section:

Before:

After:

Think of the library as a place to store your favorite educational online content. Like a physical library shelf in your study, it provides an intuitive way to organize the materials you truly need.

You could also hover over any book and enable audio or chat function.

Study Groups

The study group feature was developed in response to our research, which showed users typically had multiple windows open simultaneously—including ChatGPT, Perplexity, and chats with friends.

Our approach focused on creating a seamless, integrated experience by combining multiple functionalities onto a single unified page accessible to all study group members

An intuitive layout featuring a versatile prompt bar positioned on the left side for quick queries and interactions, while maintaining an active group chat window on the right side to facilitate real-time discussions.

A central area that displays comprehensive selection of study materials, including books and resources shared within that study group, which can be accessed and prompted by any participant in the group.

This interface design was strategically developed with two primary objectives:

To foster an environment conducive to collaborative learning where students can engage with both content and peers simultaneously.

Introduce a premium subscription tier that delivers enhanced team-based features for group study sessions.

Smart Cards

We spend majority of our lives browsing online and bookmarking content, but there isn't a proper system in place to organize our scattered thoughts and ideas.

Users in Myreader have access to a lot of information, and organizing it is the first step in learning faster.

This is where one of my favorite author's technique comes into play.

Ryan Holiday’s notecard system is a method for organizing knowledge from books, articles, and experiences.

He highlights key insights as he reads, then transcribes them onto 4x6 index cards, each with a single idea or quote.

The cards are categorized by themes like creativity or leadership for easy retrieval and cross-referencing.

This system helps distill information, foster connections between ideas, and generate new thoughts. It also aids in structuring writing and reinforcing long-term learning.

We implemented this same principle and methodology in Myreader, where users can organize their information by highlighting important passages and adding them to specific cards or groups with a simple right-click.

In the Smart Card tab you can search through your notes using key words.

The Prototype

Our prototype was sent out to all our existing users. Our research mainly comprised of asking users about their reaction to the new features and if they would continue using Myreader if the prices went up by $2-$5.

Out of our active 512 users 141 users answered our survey.

42%

of users said the Smart Notes feature alone would justify the price increase.

34%

indicated that the study group feature would be transformative for collaborative learning.

21%

expressed interest in a Smart Notes browser extension that could capture content from anywhere on the internet.

"I tried the prototype early on, and it’s been cool seeing new features on the horizon. The interface looks way better, and the study tools actually feel built for real people, not just some tech demo." – Sam W.

"Would love to use the smart notes feature. They are weirdly good at organizing my thoughts” - Taylor S.

"Feels like everything I need for studying is in one place. Notes, books, even group chats. Makes things way less chaotic." – Chris M.
